You love to party and have a couple of drinks, that’s fine until you have pain in your body especially in legs, foot, arm stomach, lower abdomen, or even chest or back. This muscular pain can range from mild to moderate to severe and can be triggered by any amount of alcohol. You cannot find any uniformity in terms of alcohol intake. It just happens.
This kind of pain, cramps or aches can have different reasons depending on the amount of alcohol you take. Any form of alcohol can start to hurt. Drinks like beer, whiskey, red wine and vodka are the main culprits here.
If you are an occasional drinker, there is nothing serious to worry about except that you should be taking care of your alcohol intake. But, if you are regular drinker then it may be a condition known as alcoholic neuropathy which is caused by nerve damage because of excessive alcohol intake
Why do you have pain in your body after you have alcohol?
There are two main reasons for this, although there are several other factors that may be responsible which may include overall fitness of a person and conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.
Increase in lactic acid
After having drinks, amount of lactic acid in the body increases which can lead to pains and cramps in the muscles.
Second effect of alcohol is dehydration
Dehydration leads to shortage of electrolytes. The more you drink, the more you will experience this.
How can you avoid the cramps and muscle pain?
You have to observe and see what kind of alcohol is causing this problem so that you can put a limit on it. Second thing is to increase your water intake so that your body remains hydrated. Also avoid drinking on an empty stomach, that effects your body mush more.
Alcoholic Neuropathy – This is a condition in which there is a nerve damage due to excessive alcohol consumption. This damage can be temporary or permanent. If temporary abstinence from alcohol can help in recovering the nerve health. In some cases this is a permanent condition and its effects can also range from slight discomfort to major disability.
If you feel any such condition, it is best to consult a doctor and get your body check for it. Then you must reduce the intake of alcohol and adopt a healthy lifestyle of diet and exercise in order for things to improve.
