Horizon Fitness is a popular brand in the fitness equipment market, produced by Johnson Tech, Inc., the same company that makes Cateye, Matrix and Vision treadmills. They have been manufacturing fitness equipment for both home and commercial use for the last 25 years.

Horizon treadmills are known for their decent quality at competitive prices. They are keeping up to the competition by packing a lot of features in their machines. Especially in the 800 – 1200$ price range Horizon has some models which are good overall machines. The production has been moved to China which helps Horizon to maintain a price advantage over other similar models. The designs look good, and the company itself is ISO9001 certified, which says a lot about their dedication to quality,

There is a wide range of models available from the basic motorized treadmills to the heavy duty ones. You can choose the one according to your budget and exercise needs. To help you choose a treadmill, you can refer to treadmill buyers guide.

Horizon treadmills range from basic models like 1.3T which comes with a 1.75 CHP motor or 5.3T which is a heavy machine with a 2.75 CHP motor. Most of the models are priced around 800 – 1200$ range with some exceptions which go into premium segment. Models like 5.3T, T1200 and T6 are heavy duty treadmills for a more intensive workout.

There are some common features available all through the product range like COMFORTzone System which offer cushioning while running, preset programs, console feedbacks and monitors which in making your treadmill workouts more effective.

Though aggressively priced there are some points to consider. Some of the parts are plastic molded, which can easily break with heavier use. And there are users who feel that assembling a Horizon treadmill is rather difficult. Smooth and Proform are the other strong contenders in this segment.

Good warranties are offered by the company which is usually a lifetime warranty on the motor and the frame and a 1 year part and labor warranty.

Here is another one from Horizon Fitness, T1200 treadmill, a much talked about model. A good sturdy exercise treadmill. A powerful motor 2.75 motor does the job well but is a bit noisy. An Ipod docking is also provided but that’s an additional feature, a treadmill should be judged on the performance and durability, not on the accessories.

A treadmill must always be installed properly on a perfectly flat surface so that it runs smoothly without any strain on its motor or frame. If you have doubts over installations get some help from the dealer.

Another good model from Horizon fitness would be T500 treadmill. This one has a nice design with a 2.0 CHP motor which is quiet and does its job well. If you want something that is good for long run at good speed, a motor above this rating would be preferred. As with most of the Horizon treadmills, this has a sturdy design with great controls and is easy to store.

Some people do get issues with installation but a help from the dealer would be a good option and do check out on the price discounts.

The Horizon T700 treadmill combines a powerful, quiet motor and stable, comfortable platform with eTRAK™ Performance Tracking technology for 2 users, and an MP3 input makes it easy to exercise to your favorite workout playlist so you play music through 2 console speakers. It’s a solid built product at a great price.

Motor comes with a lifetime guarantee and the frame is quite heavy which is stable during workouts. Durable, 2-ply belt, with a longer, 20″ x 55″ workout space gives a decent room for your treadmill workouts and move in and out. Horizon 5.3T is the newer model of the popular 5.2T elite series treadmill. 5.2T was one of the best sellers from Horizon Fitness Elite series products. 5.3T incorporates many of the same features of the 5.2T, including a powerful,2.75 hp continuous-duty motor with a digital drive system which gives you a quiet, smooth performance and fluid transitions between speeds.

There is Tri-zone deck cushioning which provides the right mix of shock absorption and support to add comfort to your exercises.

The 2.75 CHP motor delivers a good power even at a low RPM with speeds ranging from 0.5 to 12mph so you can adjust the speeds accordingly. Running area is 20” x 60” for easy running and longer strides. Frame is made up of good heavy gauge steel to withstand heavy use. It has a good cushioning system and folding is easy assisted by hydraulics. Console is pretty easy to read with clear LED display and 10 user programs to choose from.

One thing which takes it apart is its Polar® telemetric receiver w/chest strap and contact hand grips making it easier for you to monitor your progress.
